One Carter

One Carter is a proposed residential development consisting of twenty nine homesites in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains. The design of the individual homesites was parceled out to a number of architectural firms. Our team was assigned two custom residential homesites.

Lot 10
The design of the proposed dwelling at One Carter lot 10 in Sierra Madre, California is in direct response to an existing historical structure across the street and the desire to disrupt the difficult terrain as little as possible. The result is a floor plan and mass that “tumbles up” the hillside. The plan embraces the variety of views available to the site and effects a family friendly lifestyle. The extra-durable construction contributes to the overall sustainability by increasing the life cycle of materials and minimizing maintenance as well as the waste of premature replacement.
Lot 11
The proposed dwelling at One Carter lot 11 in Sierra Madre, California is a synthesized response to a number of important considerations; the eventual site conditions, ecology, sustainability with an emphasis on decreased dependency on non-renewable energy, lifestyle flexibility and a felicitous sense of place. The result is an open and flowing floor plan that embraces an indoor/outdoor family friendly lifestyle. It may be variously configured to include from one to five bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms may be configured to act as homeowner suites, one bedroom may be configured to serve as a home theater or an elder care suite. It features a “green roof” planted with drought tolerant, fire resistant succulents that reduce energy consumption by 25% to 33%. The extra-durable construction contributes to the sustainability aim by increasing the life cycle of materials and minimizing maintenance as well as the waste of premature replacement.
